ESPN pundit Craig Burley has had a go at Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero for his red card against Chelsea last night.
Spurs suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Mauricio Pochettino‘s Blues in a game where they have nobody else to blame but themselves. Romero, who Joey Barton called a ‘mad man‘, is the biggest culprit of them all.

ESPN pundit Craig Burley criticises Cristian Romero
Tottenham went into the game against Chelsea last night as the favourites, and the solid partnership at the back between Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven was one of the biggest reasons why.
However, Van de Ven suffered a hamstring injury in the game last night, but the biggest talking point is Romero’s red card for his foul on Enzo Fernandez.
The Tottenham vice-captain was already lucky to have stayed on the pitch after he kicked out at Levi Colwill earlier in the first half.
A wise player would’ve taken that second chance and protected it, but Romero, who looked like he didn’t want to be there, decided to make a second red card offence. This time, the VAR wasn’t as forgiving, and the 25-year-old was given his marching orders.
Speaking about Romero, Burley said on ESPN: “We saw Romero getting too involved. We’ve seen it before from this player.
“He has had a great season, he obviously won the World Cup 12 months ago, he has had a great season alongside Van de Ven. But we say with the little kick out, which he should’ve gone for – petulant or not, you can’t do it. He should’ve been sent off for his kickout.
“And then his challenge – his challenge was just crazy. He can play the ball, he can make the challenge without putting the player in the danger he put Enzo Fernandez. He knew what he was doing.
“He played that ball, he raked his studs right up – halfway up his shin pad. It was forceful, it was vicious, there was intent in there, it was over the top – it met every criteria (for a red card).”

Romero can’t keep doing this
We all knew about this side of Romero’s game, but after Ange Postecoglou made him the vice-captain in the summer, we thought we saw signs of maturity.
However, Romero is back to his old ways again.
Jamie O’Hara branded Romero as a liability after the Argentine got himself sent off foolishly last season, and last night showed us that he hasn’t changed one bit.
He is one of the best defenders in the country, but he just can’t keep doing this. If he does, he will be gone in a year or two.
