Jurgen Klopp says Naby Keita will miss Brentford trip with injury
Liverpool will go to Brentford this weekend with a couple of midfield injury problems, after Jurgen Klopp confirmed Naby Keita and Thiago will both miss out.
Thiago was widely expected to miss out anyway and Klopp has confirmed that the Spaniard will likely return after the international break now.
However, some had hoped that Keita – fresh of his stunning volley last week – might overcome a knock to feature against the Bees. Klopp, though, has said that for now, the midfielder will miss out.
Speaking via the club’s official website before the game with Thomas Frank’s men, Klopp admitted defeat when it came to Keita.
“Nothing really serious. But it keeps him out of the next game for sure – and maybe a little bit longer, we have to see,” Klopp conceded.
“It’s nothing serious but it’s obviously painful and we have to see how we can deal with it. Of course, it’s not cool when players have had a good pre-season, could play a lot of games and now are out.”
TBR’s View: Midfield stretched for Liverpool and typical for Keita
It’s a shame for Naby Keita, this. He was just starting to motor on a bit and with Harvey Elliott out, had a chance to seize the moment.
In a way, it just sums up his time at the club. Keita has never really got going since his big money arrival and it’s a huge shame. We’ve seen glimpses, as we did last week, but not quite enough.
As Klopp says, hopefully this is not a big issue for Keita. It does, however, open the door for someone like Curtis Jones to step in.
