Liverpool fans concerned about Keita's ongoing contract situation
Liverpool fans are worried over Keita’s fitness amid contract talks.
The Reds’ midfielder is a top player who undoubtedly has bags of talent.
However, since he made a £48m move to Anfield he’s struggled with a number of injury issues.
Recently, he’s got back to playing football regularly and it’s led to talks over a new contract.
However, Keita reportedly wants assurances over his game time before he puts pen to paper (Bild).
That’s had many fans worrying over his injury record.
They don’t want to see him sign a bumper new deal with assurances he’ll play whenever he’s available if these issues continue.
Since he’s been at Anfield, Keita has had 14 documented issues that have seen him miss an incredible 54 games (Transfermarkt).
That kind of record will not give any fans faith in a player.
When he’s fit and firing, Keita is an impressive midfield force.

That just doesn’t happen often enough, though.
At least this season so far has seen Keita star.
He’s already contributed a goal across six appearances without injury and looks like building on that (Transfermarkt).
The Liverpool midfield is not in a great state.
Harvey Elliott was struck down with injury against Leeds and Georginio Wijnaldum left on a free over the summer.
With no extra players being signed to bolster Klopp’s midfield, that’s ramped up the pressure on the rest of the Reds’ options.
That means Keita will have to step up.
If he can do so and string together a season of performances without injury then he’ll have earned a new deal.
However, if we get into October and he’s out with some sort of muscle injury, questions need to be asked.
Time will tell what needs to happen with the player, but the fans always have their opinions.
What do the fans think?
Everyone at this club wants him to succeed, but if he can’t stay fit for long periods of time, then he won’t be an important member because we can’t depend on him. A full season or so of form like this and he more than deserves it— Riam (@riamdaniel) September 23, 2021
I would have loved to see him succeed at the club because he has shown glimpses of his quality, but with his injury record it’s best to cash in whatever we can and replace him at this stage, too unreliable.— Fran Kennedy (@celticjazz) September 23, 2021
I love him but I don’t think he can make a demand like that. If he wants that status, find a way to play through pain, stay fit be a game changer consistently. He’s been out so much— Chris Pybus (@ChrisPybus) September 23, 2021
it might be best to leave his contract for now to see what happens this year then revist.
Naby lad. You are important. But we also need your consistency. You are injured ever so often. But we are patient too.— SabahKop (@avaqas) September 23, 2021
Keita is a wonderful player but i wouldn’t give him those assurances given his injury record.— Rob (@SuperSadioYNWA) September 23, 2021
He is important but he needs to demonstrate he shd be considered one going forward— Sam Jermonia Liddell II (@sammyliddell929) September 23, 2021
There’s no question he’s been held back from injuries, and that’s not something you can really blame a guy for, but I’ll co-sign on everyone here who needs to see him in form for a full season to know for sure.— Zach Bernstein #BLM (@ZD_Bernstein) September 23, 2021
