Devastating news that Diogo Jota has passed away has now been confirmed by Liverpool Football Club.
Diogo Jota tragically passed away in a car accident in Zamora, Spain, along with his brother Andre Silva.
Liverpool signed Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and he made 182 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists.
Jota was a much loved figure at Wolves and Liverpool, a player who was always such a pleasure to watch on a football pitch.
Jota won the Premier League with Liverpool last season under Arne Slot and also won three medals under Jurgen Klopp.
The Portugal international won the 2022 FA Cup with Klopp, as well as two League Cup medals in 2022 and 2024.

Speaking back in April 2023 after Jota scored twice against Nottingham Forest in a 3-2 Premier League win, Klopp explained why he thought Jota was such a ‘wonderful’ player.
The German manager, who signed Jota after winning the league title with Liverpool in the 2019/20 season, praised Jota for his incredible defensive efforts in the win, explaining why he was such a ‘valuable’ member of the team.

Klopp said: “As an offensive player, to be involved in absolutely each defensive situation and still be a threat offensively.
“There’s no if/or, you can do both. Diogo is doing that. That makes him so valuable for us, and that’s why he deserves that.
“It’s wonderful, after the long, long time he was out, now having these positive things.”

Playing under Klopp, Jota enjoyed the best goal rate of his career scoring 56 goals in 145 games.
And as Klopp celebrated, Jota was so much more than just a goalscorer for Liverpool, a player who will always be cherished by football fans worldwide.

Jota scored nine goals in 37 appearances under Slot and the Portugal international did play an important role in the 2024/25 title win.

A superb footballer and person and one that the whole footballing world will miss sorely.
