Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reported back for duty on Tuesday as the Reds players took part in pre-season training.

A number of Liverpool players had returned on Monday, undergoing physical tests at the AXA Training Centre gym.

On Tuesday, with the Reds boss also returning, the Carabao Cup and FA Cup holders stepped up their preparations further.

The Liverpool players took to the pitches and undertook their first ballwork of the new campaign.

And there were plenty of academy talents taking part in the session, including the extremely talented Stefan Bajcetic.

The 17-year-old joined the Liverpool setup from Spanish outfit Celta Vigo in February 2021.

Bajcetic linked up with the Under-16s before making his U18 debut as a 16-year-old during the 2020-21 campaign.

Last season, he continued to play for the U18s and also made his U23 debut.

In November 2021, Bajcetic penned his first professional contract with Liverpool.

“A hell of a coup”

Fans on Twitter have compared him – who can play in defence and in midfield – to Fabinho and Rodri.

Meanwhile, Goal.com named Bajcetic among the ‘Liverpool wonderkids who could follow in Alexander-Arnold’s footsteps at Anfield’.

They wrote: ‘Quietly, Liverpool may have pulled off a hell of a coup in signing this versatile Spanish U18 international from Celta Vigo at the start of 2021.

‘Bajcetic, the son of a former Serbian international, can play either as a centre-back or in midfield, and made significant strides last season before a back injury curtailed his campaign.

‘Composed on the ball, excellent in the air and with the ability to read the game expertly, he is one whom academy staff have high hopes for going forward.’

Back in January, Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders named Bajcetic as one of the Reds youngsters who stood out for him.

He also hoped that Bajcetic, Bobby Clark and Luke Chambers would take part in pre-season ahead of 2022-23.

Indeed, all three players were pictured in Tuesday’s session, along with the likes of Melkamu Frauendorf, James Norris, Harvey Davies, Isaac Mabaya, Fabian Mrozek, Thomas Hill, Leighton Clarkson, Tyler Morton and Owen Beck.
