Journalist urges Tottenham target Moukoko to sign new contract

Journalist Julien Laurens has told The Gab and Juls Podcast that it would make no sense for Tottenham Hotspur target Youssoufa Moukoko to leave Borussia Dortmund in one of the next two windows.

Moukoko is attracting attention from many of Europe’s heavyweights after a superb start to the campaign with Dortmund. He has scored six goals and contributed six assists in all competitions.

But there is also an amazing opportunity awaiting the clubs chasing his signature. His contract at Westfalenstadion expires at the end of the campaign. And thus, clubs outside Germany will be able to discuss a pre-contract deal with the forward from next month.

Ben Jacobs reported on Twitter at the weekend that Chelsea lead the race for Moukoko. But Spurs and Liverpool are also big admirers of the Germany international. And they are not the only ones in the running.

Of course, Dortmund have become used to selling some of their star men for big money down the years. But they may be pretty powerless to prevent Moukoko leaving.

It would be brilliant to see the 18-year-old in the Premier League. But Laurens has implored the youngster to stay exactly where he is for the time-being.

“It would make so much sense, Youssoufa, if you’re watching and listening, just stay where you are,” he told The Gabs and Juls Podcast.

“This is good for your progression. You’re going to work well. Edin Terzic likes you, you like him. It works. Why would you go right now to try to get that big contract?”

You can understand why Moukoko would be wary to join either Tottenham or Liverpool.

Any striker who moves to Spurs is unlikely to play regularly due to Harry Kane. Meanwhile, the Reds have been impressive up front this season, with Darwin Nunez finding his feet on Merseyside.

Obviously, both clubs have a raft of games in various competitions coming up. So there is an opportunity to rotate.

But if Moukoko continues to develop – Erling Haaland already believes that he is ‘amazing‘ – those interested sides will still be there further down the line.
