Journalist stunned as Wojciech Szczesny is linked with Tottenham move
For many, the idea of Spurs signing Szczesny is unthinkable. Of course, he spent more than a decade on the books at Arsenal.
But one thing that is not up for debate is that Tottenham do need to think about Hugo Lloris’ successor. And it seems that Szczesny is potentially on the radar.
Bridge shocked to see Szczesny linked with Tottenham
Szczesny has been in superb form for Juventus this season. He has kept seven clean sheets in nine Serie A appearances.
And of course, he made a brilliant double save after Poland conceded a penalty against Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Nevertheless, Bridge suggested that nothing would surprise him more than the 32-year-old ending up at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“This is a guy that hates the club and the fans don’t like him either. It would go down as one of the most surprising signings and, in this day and age, nothing should surprise you in football,” he told Give Me Sport.
“There would be protests and there would be an online petition from fans because he’s made his feelings clear that he’s an Arsenal man.
“I would be stunned and, of all my years in football and 15 years at Sky, if I announced that transfer, it would probably be the most shocked I’ve ever been in football transfers.”
Deal surely more hassle than its worth
Certainly, Spurs signing Szczesny would arguably be more hassle than it is potentially worth. He is an ‘exceptional‘ talent who has had a very good career.
However, if he is going to move to Tottenham off the back of a lengthy spell with Arsenal, then he needs to be one of the world’s very best. And Szczesny is not on that elite level.
He is also only a few years younger than Lloris. So they are not exactly signing someone with several years left at their peak.
On paper, he would have the potential to be a smart signing. But many Tottenham fans would never accept him. And that may not be good for anyone. So surely, this is one link which will ultimately come to nothing.
