Report: Tottenham offered chance to sign goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny
Spurs are continuing to consider Hugo Lloris’ long-term successor. The 35-year-old’s form has been a little mixed this season. And it appears that Tottenham are working to have his replacement lined up.
90min reports that Szczesny is one player who has been offered to Spurs. That is despite the 32-year-old spending more than a decade on the books at Arsenal.
Tottenham offered chance to sign Szczesny
The report claims that Tottenham are not actively pursuing a deal for Szczesny for the time-being.
However, intriguingly, Spurs are not shutting the door on the prospect of signing the goalkeeper either. So it would appear that he is going to remain on their radar.
Tottenham fans would surely not be best pleased if Szczesny made the move to North London anytime soon. He has enjoyed an excellent season with Juventus, keeping seven clean sheets in nine games in Serie A.
However, his connections to Arsenal are going to be incredibly difficult for supporters to look past.
Perhaps it would be different if Szczesny was one of the world’s best. He left the Emirates some time ago. And there would be some satisfaction if he could help Tottenham go to the summit of the Premier League – where his old side currently sit.
But Szczesny is arguably not on that world-class level. And he has been embarrassed by Harry Kane in a pre-season friendly. He is also not that much younger than Lloris. So expecting the Pole to fill the void left by the club captain is a huge ask and a real gamble.
Szczesny has been described as an ‘exceptional‘ player. And most Spurs fans would be delighted if they heard they were linked with a goalkeeper with seven clean sheets in nine this season.
But when you take everything into consideration, you can understand why the majority of Tottenham supporters will hope that nothing comes of the links.
