Journalist shares why Lautaro Martinez could join Arsenal
Journalist Dean Jones has told The Football Terrace that Lautaro Martinez sees Arsenal as a club where he could grow, while he also explained why the Gunners are in pole position to sign the forward.
Mikel Arteta’s men are looking at what would be one of the most exciting deals of the summer.
It was recently reported by The Telegraph that they have made an enquiry for the Inter Milan forward.
Interestingly, Pete O’Rourke claimed last week that Arsenal believe that Hector Bellerin could be the ace up the Gunners’ sleeve.
Inter want Bellerin. And so, putting together a player-plus-cash bid for the Argentinian is seemingly not out of the question.
For some, that will only take Arsenal so far. Convincing Martinez to move to the Emirates may be the even tougher challenge.
The 23-year-old helped the Nerazzurri to the Scudetto last year. Inter can obviously offer Champions League football next year.
But Jones – who claimed Inter value Martinez at around £68.3 million – shared why the forward is open to joining Arsenal.
He also suggested the simple reason the Gunners lead the race for his signature.
He told The Football Terrace: “My initial thought, like most people, was why would Lautaro Martinez, who’s just won Serie A with Inter Milan and is one of the best young forwards in the game, go and join Arsenal right now?
“So I’ve asked that question and basically he wants to come to the Premier League, first of all. And he sees Arsenal, if that’s the club, to be a place where he can grow.
“At the moment, the reason Arsenal are in pole position for him is because they basically have a free run at him. There hasn’t been any other contact with other clubs.”
Arsenal must strike while they have golden opportunity to sign Martinez
With no other clubs in the running, Arsenal must not hang about. Martinez looks to be a special talent.
And bringing him to the Emirates would be a real sign of intent.
They must ensure that they shut the door before any potential rivals can make a last-ditch attempt to snatch him from the Gunners’ grasp.
