Journalist claims Arsenal will try player-plus-cash swap bid for Lautaro Martinez
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has told The Football Terrace that Arsenal have not been put off by Inter Milan’s asking price for Lautaro Martinez, and believe that a swap bid could be the ace up their sleeve.
The Gunners are continuing to overhaul their squad this summer. Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga have arrived. Ben White is reportedly not far behind.
And it seems that they are not planning to stop there. Recent reports suggested that an enquiry for Lautaro Martinez has been made by the Gunners.
Martinez enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Inter last year. Of course, their year ended with the Nerazzurri lifting the Scudetto.
And with Inter able to offer Champions League football, it seems that Arsenal are being incredibly ambitious trying to sign Martinez.
However, O’Rourke has insisted that Arsenal are not giving up hope. And with Inter eyeing Hector Bellerin, the journalist suggested that the Gunners will try their luck with a player-plus-cash bid.
“His price tag is pretty steep, you’re probably talking around £77 million that Inter would want,” he told The Football Terrace. “That hasn’t really deterred Arsenal so far.
“They’re trying to think of inventive ways they can try and come to an agreement with Inter Milan. And they think the ace up their sleeve to do this deal could be Hector Bellerin.”
Arsenal still need huge sum if they hope to sign Martinez in swap deal with Bellerin
Inter’s interest in Bellerin does not clear all of the hurdles in front of Arsenal.
More recently, it has been suggested that the Serie A champions want to take the 26-year-old on loan.
Arsenal meanwhile, reportedly value Bellerin at £17 million.
So even if Inter agree to that valuation, the Gunners are still going to need to offer around £60 million for Martinez.
They will also then need to convince the Argentinian to swap Inter for Arsenal.
But if they feel that it is worth making a bid for Martinez, they must believe that they have a chance of convincing him to make the switch.
