'Long standing': Tottenham have been scouting 'incredible' Arsenal target for 12 months now - journalist

Journalist Ben Jacobs has been chatting about all things Tottenham and offered an update on their interest in Brighton’s Alexis MacAllister.

MacAllister has shot up the lists of a number of clubs after a hugely impressive World Cup with Argentina. Now a world champion, the midfielder will be more than aware that the big clubs are watching on.

Indeed, recent reports have suggested both Arsenal and Tottenham are big fans, which sets up a potential bidding war in the January window.

However, speaking to the Spurs Chat YouTube channel, respected journalist Jacobs says that while Tottenham and others are keen, Brighton are very much in control of the situation.

“Of course Tottenham like the player, they scouted him back in January, so it’s more long standing than people realise.
But he’s contracted until 2025 and Brighton have an option to extend that for a year. They don’t need to do anything in terms of keeping the player,” Jacobs said.

MacAllister could very much end up having the pick of a number of clubs should he want to move on. Arsenal want a new midfielder, as do Liverpool, while Tottenham are set to be active once more in January.

TBR’s View: MacAllister can shine for a big club

And that’s not to disrespect Brighton as such as they do fantastically well in the Premier League. But eventually, their best players will move on to the bigger clubs in the league.

With MacAllister, you do feel if he has another good few months with Brighton then a big move beckons. His performances for Argentina were remarkable at times. And if he brings that level back to England, then Brighton have a top player.

For the likes of Tottenham, he’d be such a sound addition. But Spurs know they face a fight if they do indeed want to sign him.
