Journalist says star was ‘very unhappy’ after club rejected Newcastle bid

Alex Crook has told talkSPORT that he has learned that Dean Henderson was left very unhappy after Manchester United rejected January approaches from clubs, including Newcastle.

Newcastle enjoyed an incredibly busy window. And they have made some extremely smart signings, with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and Matt Targett arriving in the final stages of the January transfer window.

But it does appear that the Magpies hoped to do more. They were heavily linked with Jesse Lingard throughout the month. However, a move did not take place due to the fees his club wanted.

But he was not the only Manchester United player Newcastle made a move for. They were interested in Henderson. Once again however, the Magpies had no luck bringing him to Tyneside.

It would appear that the Magpies did indeed register an interest. And, as Crook suggests, Henderson was not best pleased to be told that he was going nowhere when Newcastle came calling.

“[Newcastle] were frustrated with the way Manchester United handled Jesse Lingard’s situation. I think he will be as well. And he’s not the only one,” the journalist told talkSPORT.

“Dean Henderson, I’m told, is very unhappy that Manchester United turned down requests for him from Newcastle and Watford.”

You can understand why Henderson is not happy after missing out on a move amid interest from Newcastle. He has not played a single minute of Premier League football so far this season.

David de Gea has arguably been the club’s best player this term. So it may well prove to be an incredibly frustrating few months for the 24-year-old.

Having said that, the club’s stance makes sense. If de Gea gets injured at any stage, Henderson could have a big role to play.

Of course, some will question why Manchester United would not accept an offer for Henderson from Newcastle. There are likely to be some wondering whether there is a concern about what level Eddie Howe’s side could reach should they stay up this season.

But Watford have also missed out, it seems. Therefore, it looks to be a decision taken simply to ensure that his current club have the cover in case anything happens to de Gea.
