Journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that some at Leeds United are divided about whether Arnaud Kalimuendo would be the right signing for the Whites this summer.

Leeds absolutely need to sign a new striker in the final weeks of the transfer window. They struggled for goals last season. And their form highlighted their reliance on Patrick Bamford.

The Whites have also lost their top goalscorer in Raphinha. The good news is that Leeds do appear to be working towards signing a new forward.

They have been linked with a number of names, including Ivan Toney. But it does seem that Kalimuendo may be the name at the top of their list.

Reports recently claimed that a £21 million deal for the Paris Saint-Germain youngster is close. However, little appears to have been said since.

And perhaps that may be because those within the club cannot decide to whether to pull the trigger on a move or not.

Jones has suggested that he has heard from those inside Elland Road that they simply cannot reach a consensus on Kalimuendo.

“Just from speaking to three people, there are already mixed views among such a small survey group on whether this guy fits the bill,” he told Give Me Sport.

“They say that definitely not everybody at the club thinks that somebody of his profile is the way to be going right now.”

Leeds divided over whether to make Kalimuendo move

You can understand why Leeds may have reservations. Kalimuendo is unproven in the Premier League and only a young player. So spending over £20 million on him is obviously a gamble.

Having said that, Kalimuendo shone out on loan in Ligue 1 last year. And Media Foot in France reports that new PSG boss Christophe Galtier is considering pushing to keep him.

So there is definitely a lot of potential there. Leeds need to weigh up whether he is ready to make enough of an impact from next season given their need for more goals immediately.
