Journalist says Everton would love to sign Joe Gomez from Liverpool

Journalist Graeme Bailey has suggested to Anfield Watch that Everton are alongside Tottenham Hotspur amongst the teams who would happily sign Joe Gomez from Liverpool this summer.

Gomez could well be on the move at the end of the season. He has been a peripheral figure at Anfield since his return from a long-term injury.

He has only completed 90 minutes once in the Premier League this season. And with that, doubts are now emerging over his future at Anfield.

Recent reports claimed that Tottenham are amongst the clubs keen on signing Gomez. The 24-year-old is concerned about how sticking around may harm his chances of getting back into the England squad ahead of the World Cup.

Bailey has also stated that Spurs are in the running for Gomez. But interestingly, he went on to suggest that the Toffees would also welcome the chance to sign the centre-back.

“I understand that Gomez is hugely worried about his England chances, as Gareth Southgate is a huge fan and would like to take him to Qatar later this year – but he can’t pick him if he isn’t playing,” he told Anfield Watch.

“Now Liverpool and Klopp have a huge decision to make, and there are no shortage of clubs looking to land the 24-year-old. I am told Tottenham, Newcastle, West Ham, soon to be promoted Fulham, and Stanley Park neighbours Everton would all happily take Gomez.”

Unlikely Gomez move to Everton out of the question if Toffees are relegated

It is a huge surprise to see Everton linked with Gomez. Clearly, it would be a shock to many if Liverpool sold him to their Merseyside rivals.

Jurgen Klopp has previously suggested that he is a ‘sensational‘ player. And it would disappoint many if he ended up at Goodison Park.

A move therefore, looks incredibly unlikely. It would surely be impossible if Frank Lampard is unable to keep Everton in the Premier League.

They are on a torrid run of form. And they are edging closer and closer to the relegation zone. Their remaining fixtures look pretty daunting also.

Obviously, there is no chance of Gomez dropping into the Championship. In fact, the chances of Everton signing Gomez look, at best, incredibly slim anyway.

It is surely much more likely that he will end up at Tottenham, Newcastle or West Ham should Gomez leave Liverpool this summer.
