Report: Tottenham very keen as Joe Gomez eyes Liverpool exit
Tottenham Hotspur are amongst the clubs most interested in signing Joe Gomez with the Liverpool defender now keen to leave the club this summer, according to a report from 90min.
Gomez has really struggled for game-time with the Reds this season. He has only played 90 minutes once in the Premier League.
He is currently behind the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konaté in the pecking order. And with that, Gomez is now seriously considering his future at Anfield.
90min reports that he has two years left on his Liverpool contract. But with the World Cup later this year, he is keen to move this summer to boost his chances of making the England squad.
And a host of sides are interested in offering him a fresh challenge. 90min reports that Tottenham are battling the likes of Newcastle, Leicester and West Ham for his signature.
Gomez would be an amazing signing to fill centre-back void at Tottenham
Fabrizio Romano has already suggested that Tottenham will definitely sign a centre-back this summer. They do appear to lack depth in that area of the field with Antonio Conte using a back three.
Eric Dier and Cristian Romero look set to be key men moving forward. But there is more of a question mark over the position of Ben Davies. Meanwhile, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon are more peripheral figures under the Italian.
Signing Gomez would certainly be a huge statement of intent from Tottenham. Jurgen Klopp has previously described him as a ‘sensational‘ footballer.
Remarkably, he is still only 24 years of age. He has made 135 appearances for Liverpool – and that is with the large majority of the last two seasons spent on the sidelines.
Liverpool will surely be reluctant to let him go. So the onus is on Tottenham to make the kind of bid the Reds simply cannot refuse for Gomez.
