Football journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Everton could make a move to sign Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe this summer.
The Ivorian, branded as ‘phenomenal’ by Mikel Arteta, joined the Gunners for a club-record £72 million in 2019 (BBC). A lot was expected of him in the Premier League after his sensational final season at Lille, but things just haven’t worked out for him.
In 112 appearances for Arsenal, Pepe has scored 27 goals and provided 21 assists in all competitions. That’s not an awful record, but it’s still nowhere near good enough for a player who cost so much money.
The Gunners are expected to push Pepe out of the door this summer, and it has now been claimed that he could find himself a Premier League club.
Journalist says Everton might try to sign Nicolas Pepe from Arsenal
Everton narrowly missed out on relegation last season. Frank Lampard managed to keep his side alive in the end, but he needs all the help he can possibly get to have a good campaign.
With Richarlison gone, the Toffees are considerably weaker. They need to replace the Brazilian, and O’Rourke believes Pepe could be an option.
He told GiveMeSport: “They may get a real bargain now, whether it’s on loan or not, but I think Everton are in the market for attacking reinforcements.
“They need to replace Richarlison and if Nicolas Pepe is available on loan then it’s something Frank Lampard might look at.”

TBR View:
Nicolas Pepe hasn’t set the stage on fire at Arsenal, but his talent is unquestionable.
The Ivorian is fast, is a fantastic dribbler and is as skilful on the ball as they come. His time at Arsenal has been underwhelming, but it has to be said that regular opportunities just haven’t come his way since Mikel Arteta took charge of the club.
A move to a side like Everton where he will likely play every week could bring the best out of Pepe next season.
However, whether Arsenal will allow him to join a Premier League club this summer remains to be seen.
