Journalist says Chelsea also want 'incredible' Tottenham target
Dean Jones has told The Football Terrace that Chelsea are also interested in Tottenham Hotspur target Adama Traore, though they are not as far along in their pursuit as Antonio Conte’s men.
Traore moving to Tottenham has looked to potentially be on the cards for some time. Recent reports have suggested that Spurs are confident of sealing a £20 million move for the Wolves wide-man.
The Spain international is one of the most perplexing Premier League players. On his day, there are barely any defenders who are capable of containing the former Barcelona man. Pep Guardiola has previously labelled him an ‘incredible‘ player.
However, he is yet to provide a goal or assist in the top-flight this term.
Nevertheless, Conte seemingly sees Traore as an ideal option for the right wing-back role in his Tottenham side. Emerson Royal has not had the best time since arriving. And he does not tend to offer a lot going forward.
It is hard to see Wolves digging their heels in should Spurs make a substantial offer. But Jones suggested that it may actually be another Premier League rival who decide to throw a spanner in the works.
“Adama Traore is a genuine target,” he told The Football Terrace. “They’re trying to negotiate terms and a deal with Wolves right now. Chelsea are also interested in signing Adama Traore though.
“They haven’t gone particularly far with it, certainly not as far as down the road as Spurs are yet.”
Tottenham fans will be divided over prospect of losing out on Adama Traore to Chelsea
Jones went on to add that Tottenham remain confident of signing Traore. But Chelsea’s interest may not do Conte’s men many favours.
Certainly, Wolves may feel that they can demand more if two sides are battling for Traore’s signature.
Some Tottenham fans may not mind seeing Traore head elsewhere. But it would definitely be difficult for Spurs supporters to stomach should Traore move to Stamford Bridge and subsequently thrive.
