Journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Arsenal plan to make one more big push to try and sign Lisandro Martinez as they continue to battle Manchester United for the centre-back.
Martinez looks to be one of the last major targets on Mikel Arteta’s radar in this window. The Gunners have bolstered their squad with some incredibly shrewd additions so far.

And they have already spent plenty of time trying to sign Martinez. Reports have previously suggested that Arsenal have made three bids for the Argentinian, with the latest offer worth £38.7 million. Ajax’s asking price meanwhile, is around £43 million.
Of course, Arsenal do not have a clear run to his signature. Erik ten Hag wants to be quickly reunited with the 24-year-old following his appointment at Manchester United.

That leaves the Gunners with a lot of work to do. But Jones has claimed that Edu and Arteta are not going to give up on signing Martinez without a fight.
“They definitely will make one big push and they’ll try to sell this vision of the club. They’ll try to show him the progress that they’ve made under Arteta,” he told Give Me Sport.
“While it looks like United are ahead of them in terms of progress, they are taking a step back to start again under Erik ten Hag, whereas Arsenal are continuing a pathway they’ve been building under Arteta and they’ve been getting these really good players to become part of the project.”

Martinez would be an incredibly shrewd signing for Arsenal. He would obviously provide competition for the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes, Ben White and William Saliba.
But he is also able to play at left-back or even in holding midfield. That would be a big boost for Arsenal if they could seal a deal in the coming weeks.
They are apparently absolutely determined to do all they can to convince Martinez to move to the Emirates.
