Report: Ajax yet to respond to third Arsenal bid for Lisandro Martinez

Ajax are yet to respond to the third bid from Arsenal for Lisandro Martinez, with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that the Gunners have offered a deal worth up to £38.7 million for the defender.

Martinez looks to be one of Mikel Arteta’s big targets in the remaining weeks of the transfer window. The Gunners have already made a number of signings.

They have stepped up their pursuit of the Argentinian of late. And reports this week claimed that a third bid for the 24-year-old had arrived from Arsenal.

It was claimed that the Eredivisie side want £43 million for Martinez. And Arsenal’s offer was not expected to be enough to seal a deal for the centre-back.

But it would appear that Ajax are not rushing a decision. Tuttomercatoweb reports that they are yet to respond to the latest bid.

Meanwhile, they claim that Arsenal’s bid consists of an initial fee of £34.5 million, with a further £4.2 million coming in adds.

It is noted that Manchester United are also preparing an offer of £34.5 million.

Ajax yet to respond to Arsenal bid for Martinez

Arsenal fans will hope that Ajax not responding is a positive sign. But it is encouraging that they are not far away from meeting his asking price.

Obviously, there is some way to go when it comes to the up-front fee. But Arsenal are clearly determined to get Martinez through the door. So their supporters will hope that an agreement will soon be reached.

Martinez would be an incredibly smart signing. He is predominantly a centre-back. But he can also feature at left-back. And reports this week suggested that Arsenal saw him as a potential midfield option.

United potentially have an advantage due to the connection with Erik ten Hag. But it is Arsenal who are leading the way with the bidding. So they will hope that they are now able to get across the line.
