Journalist Alvaro Montero has told Sky Sports News (broadcast on 31/1; 12:36) that Giovani Lo Celso has agreed a move to Villarreal, but the Tottenham Hotspur star has to wait for a space to open up in the squad.
Lo Celso could be moved on before the closure of the January transfer window. He has fallen out of favour under Antonio Conte. Of course, he posted on social media confirming that he was not injured after being left out of the squad that faced Chelsea before the break.

Obviously, time is running out for the Argentinian to secure a move away. But it would appear that finalising that transfer is now out of his hands for the time-being.
Montero was asked about what the future holds for Lo Celso. And he suggested that while an agreement is in place with the Yellow Submarine, Villarreal have further work to do before getting a deal across the line.

“Lo Celso wants to play in Spain. What we know is there is an agreement between the player, Lo Celso, and the club, Villarreal,” he told Sky Sports. “He doesn’t want to stay in England.
“He’s now in Argentina with his national team. What we know is the player has rejected a good offer from Lyon to play in France. He wants to play in Spain. The problem now is Villarreal don’t have enough space. They have to have a new gap.”
Fascinating to see how Conte uses Lo Celso should Villarreal move fall through
It may worry Lo Celso that Villarreal need to create space in their squad before pushing a deal over the line. With time running out, it would appear that there is a chance that he could yet end up staying at Tottenham.
That would be fascinating. Lo Celso is yet to find anything like his best form since joining Tottenham. And Conte is clearly not convinced about him.
However, Tottenham have not overhauled their squad this month. So there may still be scope for Lo Celso to force his way back into the fold should he fail to seal the deadline day move to Villarreal.
