Journalist provides update on Everton future of Anthony Gordon
Journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that he has been told that Anthony Gordon wants to stay at Everton for as long as possible, and thus, he does not expect the Toffees to try and cash in on the youngster.
Gordon has been a shining light in a horrible season for Everton. They return following the international break perilously close to the relegation zone in the Premier League.
The Toffees did win their most recent league game. But confidence was then smashed to pieces once again days later as they were thrashed in the FA Cup.
It is also generally felt that Everton may have the toughest run of games left. So there is a huge amount of uncertainty heading into the final weeks of the campaign.
It is looking likely that stars will leave. Reports over the weekend claimed that Everton plan to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin. And of course, their hand will be forced on many names if they fall into the Championship.
But there is some positive news for Toffees fans. Jones has claimed that everything he has been told would hint that Gordon is looking to stay at Everton for as long as he can.
“From everything that I can gather from speaking to people, he wants to remain at that club for as long as he possibly can. And so, I’ll be very surprised if Everton tried to cash in on him, that’s not the route to go down right now,” he told Give Me Sport.
Gordon a player Everton can build new side around in years ahead
Gordon is the player who is doing more than most to try and drag Everton out of trouble. He has been ‘excellent‘. And he is often the one who gives the Goodison Park faithful something to smile about.
He is arguably one of the only names who unites the fanbase when debating who is worth keeping and building the side around going forward.
It is a lot of pressure on Gordon’s shoulders. But the way he has stepped up this season certainly says a lot about the Everton starlet.
