Tottenham have failed to win any of their last five Premier League games, but it wasn’t too long ago that they were being tipped for the title.
Indeed, Spurs went unbeaten for the first 10 games of this season, and at that time, many pundits discussed Spurs as potential title winners at the time.
Of course, after this recent run of form, the talk of Tottenham winning the league has died down, but, within the club, those discussions never really held much weight.
Indeed, speaking on Off The Ball, Martin Lipton has been discussing the view within the title chatter from within Spurs, and he says that nobody within Tottenham ever thought they were going to challenge for the title, even if they started the season brilliantly.

Spurs never bought into title chat
Lipton shared what he knows about Spurs’ view of the idea they were in a title race.
“The idea that Tottenham were going to challenge for the title was fanciful nonsense from start to finish, nobody at Tottenham thought that. The problem is that they started the season so well that exaggerations were grossly exaggerated,” Lipton said.
Too early
Tottenham were right to not buy into the title chat because it was quite simply too early in the season to have those discussions.
Let’s not forget, this time last year, Antonio Conte was coming off the back of a fantastic start to the campaign before everything went to pot.
Tottenham knew that they were never going to be good enough to sustain a title challenge this season, and while they have dipped recently, it has to be said that they are still in a much stronger position than many would’ve expected at the end of last season.
Spurs won’t win the league, but a top four finish is still more than viable.
