The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has told The View from The Lane podcast that he is currently expecting Harry Kane to still be at Tottenham Hotspur next season following the speculation linking him with a move to Manchester City last summer.
Kane is back in the goals and back receiving rafts of plaudits. Dejan Kulusevski described him as ‘amazing’ after the weekend. He has now scored 15 goals in all competitions, including four in his last five.

In truth, his performances since the early weeks of the season have largely been superb – even if they did not meet the levels expected of Kane. But he is now backing up those impressive showings with goals once again.
Of course, that run may prompt some to wonder if Tottenham will face another fight to keep Kane this summer. Obviously, last summer, he was heavily linked with a potential move to Manchester City.

No move took place. But City have not yet signed a senior striker. And with that, Kane is surely going to be one player discussed at some stage by those in power at the Etihad Stadium.
Pitt-Brooke admitted that much can change by the time the window arrives. However, he did suggest that he cannot currently see Kane leaving Tottenham in the upcoming summer either.
“If Tottenham are in the Champions League next year, then I think that will dampen any curiosity in leaving that Kane might feel, particularly if the progress under Conte is clear,” he told The View from The Lane.
“Also, I’m not convinced that City will necessarily go for a 29-year-old in the market. They want Haaland. If they don’t get Haaland, I don’t know whether Kane will be a plan B. Also, frankly, I don’t think City particularly enjoyed the saga over this summer. And I’m not sure they would particularly want to try and do it all again.
“Anything can happen in football. And this might sound very stupid in five months’ time. But right now, I am certainly expecting Kane to be there next season.”
Conte appointment looks set to be a key moment for Kane and Tottenham
Tottenham appeared to miss the boat on realising their potential while Kane is in his prime. The opportunity seemed to come and go around the time Mauricio Pochettino took the club to the Champions League final.
So it was little surprise that the striker was keen to leave. And the appointment of Nuno Espírito Santo hardly seemed to be the most inspiring move.
But bringing in Conte was a huge statement. Tottenham have appointed a world-class manager. He has an amazing track record.
Kane meanwhile, may not have too many years left at the peak of his powers. So a move comes with an element of risk for him also.
Appointing Conte has had a positive impact on Kane’s form. And it could be the decision from Tottenham that sets the stage for Kane to stay for many years to come.
