Respected journalist, Ben Jacobs, has said that Liverpool might end up getting a ‘clear run’ at Jude Bellingham thanks to Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe has been in the headlines once again this week amid rumours of more turmoil at PSG. As usual, Liverpool have been mentioned as a potential destination for the French superstar.

Of course, there is a long way to go in terms of the saga with Mbappe. And interestingly, Jacobs told the Football Terrace podcast today that the whole debacle may even help them land Bellingham.

“Given that Liverpool want Jude Bellingham, they aren’t going to go and get Mbappe and Bellingham, financially speaking. I think that Bellingham will be Liverpool’s priority at this stage,” Jacobs said.

“From Real Madrid’s point of view, let’s say they got Mbappe, they also may not get Bellingham. So ironically, if Liverpool want Bellingham and so do Real, but the opportunity comes to get Mbappe, you might find that Liverpool get a clear run at Bellingham, although there are lots of clubs interested.”

Bellingham has emerged as a key target for Liverpool and just this week, Miguel Delaney suggested that the Reds were stepping up their pursuit of the England midfielder.

The talk of Mbappe is interesting and while he is a once in a generation talent, ask most Liverpool fans and they’ll want the ‘amazing‘ Jude Bellingham as their big signing.

The Reds need a midfielder and Bellingham ticks so many boxes. He is ideal for Jurgen Klopp, ideal for Liverpool, and would take them to a new level in terms of their midfield.

Sure, if the Reds could get Mbappe, then that’s a superstar signing. But Bellingham is the man, and if Liverpool get the run at the Dortmund man that Jacobs suggests, the will delight FSG and Klopp.
