Journalist: Arsenal want to sign Nabil Fekir and the Real Betis playmaker is keen on moving to the Emirates
Goal reporter Charles Watts has claimed that Arsenal are interested in signing Real Betis playmaker Nabil Fekir this summer. The Frenchman has been strongly linked with moves to the Premier League, and now, Watts says Fekir is keen on a transfer to Arsenal. He could be quite expensive, though.
Fekir, 27, joined Betis from Lyon in the summer of 2019 for a bargain fee of just £18million (Football London). It was a somewhat surprising move, given the France ace has been linked with bigger clubs – such as Liverpool. He came within an inch of joining the Merseyside club in 2018.
He has struggled at Betis. In 71 appearances, he has scored just 12 goals and created only 13 more. It is not the kind of form he was churning out at Lyon – in which he produced 115 goal involvements in 193 games. Watts claims Arsenal want him, and that Fekir would jump at the chance to join.
“Another player that they like that plays in that sort of creative area is Nabil Fekir. He’s over in Spain at the moment with Betis. He would absolutely be keen on a move, not just to Arsenal, but to the Premier League – he missed out on his big move to Liverpool before,” Watts told his Youtube channel.
Fekir would be a good transfer for Arsenal – especially if Odegaard does leave
It looks more than likely that Martin Odegaard will remain at parent club Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti has replaced Zinedine Zidane. The Italian is likely to give his loanees a chance, including Gareth Bale. Even if Ancelotti was willing to sell Odegaard – Arsenal might struggle get him.
A lack of European football and his hefty asking price might prove difficult to overcome for the Gunners. Fekir, then, would be a brilliant buy. Likely to be available for a cheap-ish fee, Fekir would replace the loss of Odegaard. Fekir will cost a fee of £26million.
