Jose Mourinho and Spurs are firmly on course to prove Rio Ferdinand wrong when it comes to his pre-season prediction.
Back in August, Ferdinand delivered his verdict on how the Premier League would pan out. In that prediction, he had Spurs finishing in the top four along with City, Liverpool, and former club, Man United.

It was something we are TBR covered at the time and something that, obviously, garnered plenty of responses on Twitter.
Ferdinand was, in fairness, making the prediction based on the 2018/19 campaign. Spurs were coming off the back of a Champions League final place and looked to on an upward curve.
However, as we all know, Mauricio Pochettino has now moved on and Jose Mourinho is now in charge.
And it looks like Mourinho is doing his best to ensure Ferdinand is proved incorrect in his prediction.
Spurs well away from being a contender
Prior to the enforced break across football, Spurs were sitting way down in eighth in the Premier League table.
It’s a drop in position that has been pretty dramatic. Spurs lost a crucial away fixture at Chelsea before dropping more points at home to Wolves. They then failed to beat Burnley away, settling for a point after a woeful opening 45 minutes.

It’s not all Jose Mourinho’s fault. Spurs have had a plethora of injuries to contend with, including to star players such as Harry Kane.
However, given Ferdinand’s sureness in his August prediction, it looks like the ex-England man is going to get this one drastically wrong.
It will be the first time Spurs have finished outside the top four in the last four seasons.
