Rio Ferdinand has predicted on Twitter that Tottenham will be in for another top four finish this season in the Premier League, but it tipping newly-promoted Aston Villa to go straight back down.

Spurs begin their new league season on Saturday evening when they host Villa and it will be a great opportunity to lay down a marker.

The North London club have finished in the top four of the Premier League during the last four consecutive campaign and made the Champions League final last season too.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side enjoyed an impressive transfer window, with the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon arriving to bolster their squad.

Meanwhile, Villa were extremely busy in the summer window too with 12 new signings and they are looking to stay in the top-flight following their return.

Manager Dean Smith helped his team earn promotion via the play-off last season and has enjoyed a reshuffle of his quad.

Pundit Ferdinand has tipped Spurs for another top four finish, but Villa fans will not be happy that the ex-England international believes they will be one of the three teams relegated.

TBR’s View:

Spurs will expect a top four as a bare minimum this campaign and in reality they need to finally win a piece of silverware under Pochettino, even if it’s a domestic trophy.

They have made some eye-catching additions this campaign and they should be able to push frontrunners Manchester City and Liverpool a lot closer this year.

Pochettino has a talented group of individuals entering their peak and they have every right to believe this season they can win a piece of silverware.

Meanwhile, survival has to be the key for Villa and they have to be admired for their bravery in the window.

Many are predicting they will fail like Fulham last season after their summer spree, but Smith’s signings look a lot smarter on paper and securing the return of Tyrone Mings on a permanent basis could be vital.
