Jose Enrique claims that Liverpool’s Kostas Tsimikas is someone who’s caught his eye during pre-season.
The Reds have played a couple of friendly matches already this summer as they build towards the 2021/22 campaign. Jurgen Klopp’s side still face Athletic Bilbao and Osasuna before the Premier League starts for them away to Norwich City.
Enrique, who’s a pundit and ex-Reds player, says that Tsimikas has stood out so far.
The 25-year-old left-back has given a glimpse into why the Merseyside club signed him in the first place last year.
It was a difficult debut season for him last year at Anfield, making just seven appearances across all competitions.
He’s part of the squad to provide cover at left-back for 27-year-old Scotsman Andy Robertson, but there wasn’t much trust from Klopp to play him.
“Kostas Tsimikas has the best left-back in the world in front of him at Liverpool, but he has the desire to push himself and prove himself, and managers love that,” Enrique wrote for Empire of the Kop.
“There isn’t much he can do to actually take the position away from Andy Robertson, that’s the reality, but he has surprised me in pre-season.”

Kostas Tsimikas can be important in Liverpool squad
Tsimikas has one of the toughest jobs around trying to overtake Robertson in the Liverpool pecking order. However, fans, along with Enrique, are encouraged by what they’ve seen from him in pre-season.
The Greece international has tremendous pace and attacking intent from full-back, something Klopp loves out wide.
It will be great to rotate more freely in cup games as Robertson has been pushed hard in recent years.
Tsimikas has been living in England a year now, so perhaps during his second season he can really push on to help the group. He definitely has the tools to fit in at left-back and it looks like he’s improving.
