Jonathan David says midfielder Tottenham thought they were going to sign is so ‘underrated’

Tottenham Hotspur had a tumultuous transfer window to say the least.

Indeed, Spurs signed a number of exciting players this summer. Joao Palhinha looks like a great addition, while Xavi Simons looks an exciting talent too.

However, in many ways, this summer transfer window at Tottenham was defined by the players Spurs didn’t sign.

Indeed, Tottenham wanted Morgan Gibbs-White before he signed his new Nottingham Forest contract, while Eberechi Eze was a Spurs target before he snubbed Tottenham for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Tottenham thought they were in pole position to land Angel Gomes at one point, but Gomes went to Marseille instead.

Now, Jonathan David has hailed Gomes, showing Spurs exactly what they’re missing.

Jonathan David says Angel Gomes is underrated

David, of course, played alongside Gomes at Lille before their respective moves to Juventus and Monaco.

Now, speaking to The Footy Culture, David has been asked to name his most underrated teammate, and he says that Angel Gomes is certainly a player who is in that conversation.

“Who is the most underrated teammate you have had?” David was asked.

“Angel Gomes is up there,” David said.

Tottenham have their own underrated midfielder now

Spurs may have missed out in a potential star in Gomes, but they have managed to bolster their midfield in a different way.

Indeed, Joao Palhinha has signed for Spurs, and, much like Gomes, Palhinha has been called underrated before.

Jamie Redknapp praised Palhinha in exactly this way a few years ago, saying:

“He’s brilliant, Palhinha. One of the most underrated players in the Premier League.”

Palhinha has already shown just how good he is at Tottenham upon his return to the Premier League after a successful spell with Fulham.

Palhinha and Gomes would have made a brilliant midfield partnership, but it has to be said that Pape Sarr and Palhinha’s relationship is blossoming into something special too.
