Joe Gomez says Liverpool have a top talent in their ranks, blew his mind in training
Liverpool ace Joe Gomez has waxed lyrical about Kaide Gordon after he made his Reds debut earlier this week.
The 16-year-old winger only joined the Liverpool academy in February this year but he’s been absolutely sensational at Kirkby.
Last season, Gordon made 13 Under-18 Premier League appearances, registering nine goals and three assists.
He subsequently played one game for the Under-23s late in the season, against Leicester – and got himself a goal.
Jurgen Klopp rewarded him in pre-season by naming him in the training camps in Austria and France, where he impressed.
This season, Gordon is firmly in the U23s setup, and from his three PL2 appearances this season, he’s grabbed two goals and an assist.
And on Tuesday, he became the fifth-youngest debutant in Liverpool history in the Carabao Cup third-round win at Norwich.
Gordon played with confidence belying his 16 years and came close to scoring in the second half, his performance earning praise from fans.
Speaking after the game, Gomez sung the teenager’s praises.
“The biggest thing about Kaide is that he seems to have such an old head on his shoulders,” Goal.com quotes him as saying.
“And that level-headed mindset keeps him in his place.
“His ability speaks for itself, but he’s such a nice guy. In pre-season, he took everything in his stride.
“Every time he trains with us he applies himself properly.
“He does extra things that wouldn’t even have crossed my mind when I was his age.
“Hats off to him, and I’m sure he can go on to have a great career.
“The platform he has, there’s no ceiling to it.”
