Joao Palhinha has been so impressed by Lucas Bergvall, who has claimed back-to-back Player of the Match awards in Tottenham Hotspur’s last two matches.

Tottenham Hotspur returned to Champions League action this week, winning 1-0 in North London with Bergvall’s deflected cross proving to be the only goal of the game.

Thomas Frank’s team also defeated West Ham United, in which the young Swede also scored and claimed the Man of the Match award.

Palhinha has now been discussing the Swedish international and revealed he was shocked to learn a bit of information about the midfielder.

Joao Palhinha has revealed that he was shocked to learn that his new teammate, Lucas Bergvall, is only 19 years old.

After Spurs’ win over Villarreal, Rooney hailed Bergvall’s maturity, and now Tottenham’s summer signing has also done the same.

Palhinha, who was also impressed by Xavi Simons, labelled the teenager as a ‘top player’ and said that he is ‘improving a lot’.

Speaking to the media, the Portuguese star said: “He’s a top player as well, he is one of the young talents we have, he’s improving a lot, growing up a lot.

“Two or three days ago, I just found out that he’s 19 years old, because I thought that he was older, but it means a lot.

“These young players will not just help in the future but also in the present. I’m really happy to play with him.”

Bergvall was named in the Premier League Team of the Week after his display at the London Stadium, highlighting just how important he now is for Spurs.

Last season was his breakout campaign, but this term, Bergvall is quickly announcing himself as an elite Premier League player.

The talented teenager now ranks top in several departments this season among Premier League midfielders, including aerial duels, shots on target, crosses to box, accelerations and goals plus assists.

Frank has moved Bergvall into the number ten role and so far it’s worked to great effect, with the midfielder looking a threat in attack.

But as Palhinha said, it’s quite shocking to see his age and just how mature he looks every time he takes to the field for Tottenham.
