Joachim Andersen is Tottenham's top target, says Fabrizio Romano

Lyon centre-back Joachim Andersen is Tottenham’s top defensive target this summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The defender spent 2020/21 on loan at Fulham but their relegation means they are unable to sign him permanently – opening the door for Spurs.

The Danish star wants to stay in the Premier League, although Tottenham will face competition from European clubs.

Despite the Cottagers struggling to make an impact on the top-flight, Andersen showcased his class throughout the season.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

He made 31 appearances in Scott Parker’s team and has caught the eye with some superb performances.

Andersen was particularly impressive during a 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield back in March, with Spurs now keen to pounce.

Tottenham are desperate for a centre-back. Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and even Toby Alderweireld have struggled during 2020/21.

A recent report claimed that the four-cap international could be available for as little as £20 million. As a result, moving to sign Andersen does seem to make perfect sense this summer.

The defender earns £52,000-a-week at Lyon and his salary should fit nicely within the budget which Tottenham will have to play with.

Romano does claim that Spurs hope to sort a new manager out as a matter of urgency.

Once a replacement for Jose Mourinho has been identified, however, the Tottenham board will begin their assault on the transfer market.

Future star – Tottenham must act

At 24 Andersen has plenty of time to continue learning his trade, with bags of potential yet to be unleashed.

He will have learned a lot during his year in the Premier League and he took to English football exceptionally well.

His days at Lyon look numbered and given the bargain price, Tottenham would be very wise to pounce. .

Having failed to qualify for the Champions League or the Europa League, Spurs might have to shop in a different market.

Despite that, Andersen would provide an upgrade and he could be a shrewd addition to the Tottenham ranks.
