Massimiliano Allegri has made Manchester City ace Gabriel Jesus his number one transfer target this summer.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, the Brazilian is at the top of Allegri’s wishlist.

Jesus has been linked with a move away from Manchester for a few weeks now. He emerged as a target for Tottenham Hotspur as part of a swap deal to bring Harry Kane to the Etihad Stadium.

The £90k-p/w 24-year-old was once again in and out of the City team last campaign. Jesus made 42 appearances across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and assisting a further four.

However, the centre-forward started just 22 Premier League games with Pep Guardiola often preffering to play without a forward.

TBR View: Jesus transfer would leave Manchester City needing two strikers

Sergio Aguero’s departure left the Citizens needing a new centre-forward.

However, potentially losing both your number nines is hazardous for Guardiola. Thus making the need for two centre-forwards paramount this summer.

The former Barcelona coach often used a false-nine system last term, however, it didn’t always prove fruitful. May’s Champions League final loss to Chelsea bore witness to that.

Certain games throughout the season may well require out-of-the-box thinking.

But, in the current era of football, two strikers is a necessity. Man City often go the distance in all four competitions with many games being played.

Entering the season with just one striker could have disastrous consequences. One injury would leave the club scraping the bottom of the barrel just to make do.

The South American has been a faithful servant for City during his time at the club. But, it’s time to move him on as it seems he’ll never be a starter.

A transfer to Juventus would suit both Jesus and Manchester City. His role as a rotation option is a sign of Guardiola’s lack of trust in him and with two years left on his deal a move away would be sensible.
