Jesse Marsch has suggested in his press conference that he finds the reaction to Leeds United’s winner against Norwich incredible, sharing that he had been told that one of the videos put out by the club had had seven million views.

Leeds have scored the goal that could prove to be a real turning point in the Whites’ season. Joe Gelhardt scored in the 94th minute to earn a massive three points against the Canaries.

It was seen as a must-win game. And the drama of the contest only increased with Norwich equalising in the 91st minute of the game. In many ways, the result was even more special than if Leeds had blown Norwich away 4-0 with their first-half chances.

Of course, Marsch will be keen to see his side avoid getting carried away. Norwich look to be in big trouble. And the feeling around Elland Road moments before Gelhardt scored was that Leeds were destined to join them in getting relegated.

That is why the scenes were so wild when the forward tapped home the winner. Elland Road was sent into a frenzy. The bench emptied as all of the substitutes sprinted down the line to celebrate with Gelhardt.

And Marsch suggested that he has been taken aback by the reaction to the goal in the days since.

“Someone said to me that one of the videos that they put out of the celebration had seven million views or something like that so that’s incredible to me to think about that, certainly, even being around the city and the fans, the way that they have appreciated and enjoyed the moment,” he said in his press conference.

Huge step in the right direction for Marsch and Leeds

Obviously, some will point out that Norwich’s form had been woeful. And they had a glorious chance themselves moments after Gelhardt’s goal.

But getting over the hurdle of securing that first win under Marsch could be massive for Leeds, particularly given the manner in which it came.

It will be fascinating to see how they fare against Wolves on Friday. A positive result at Molineux may also do wonders for the belief that Leeds are moving in the right direction.
