In a blockbuster summer transfer window, a number of big-name strikers arrived in the Premier League and others swapped teams like Alexander Isak.
Liverpool spent big on the likes of Isak, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike. With Isak moving to Anfield, Newcastle snapped up Nick Woltemade and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.
Newcastle had previously been offered Victor Boniface as Bayer Leverkusen’s squad got picked apart this summer before they moved for their new-look strike force.

Tottenham were also offered Boniface, as TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey reported during the transfer window. However, Spurs secured a loan for Randall Kolo Muani of PSG instead.
Jeremie Frimpong picks Victor Boniface as the best striker he has played with, ahead of Alexander Isak
Jeremie Frimpong and Victor Boniface were teammates at Bayer Leverkusen, both winning the Bundesliga in 2024. With Frimpong now at Liverpool, Boniface is on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.
Frimpong was asked to pick his best five-a-side team from players he has played alongside, and wisely picked four of his new Liverpool teammates.
In goal, he picked Alisson, with Virgil Van Dijk selected as his only defender. In midfield, he plumped for Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz – after also playing with Wirtz in Leverkusen.
And in attack, rather than select Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike or Alexander Isak, Frimpong instead picked former Leverkusen teammate Boniface.
Newcastle and Tottenham turned down Victor Boniface after 32 goals for Bayer Leverkusen
Victor Boniface netted 32 goals in 62 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen with 12 assists over two seasons, including 31 goal involvements in 34 games during Leverkusen’s title-winning campaign.

Current Real Madrid manager, and former Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has praised Victor Boniface in the past, talking up his ‘physical presence’ and ability to play across the front line.
After a reported transfer to the Saudi Pro League collapsed in January 2025, Alonso expressed his delight that Boniface was staying at Leverkusen.
However, with Alonso departing for Madrid and Leverkusen’s squad depleted, Boniface was one of many players to leave and he already has one goal for new club Werder Bremen from three substitute appearances.
