Jeremie Frimpong claims Liverpool talent who simply can’t find form is usually so ‘consistent’

Liverpool suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season after being stunned by Crystal Palace, and one player never got to grips with the pace of the game.

Arne Slot’s side looked set to take a point at Selhurst Park after Federico Chiesa cancelled out Ismaila Sarr’s first-half opener, but Eddie Nketiah struck in the 97th minute to clinch the win for Palace.

The champions were blown away during the first 45 minutes and despite improving after the break, Slot was left to rue a costly loss, especially after Arsenal beat Newcastle 2-1 on Sunday.

However, Liverpool are undergoing a rebuild after splashing almost £300million over the summer and some players will require patience, none more so than Florian Wirtz.

Jeremie Frimpong praises Florian Wirtz’s consistency

Wirtz arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in a staggering £116m club-record deal, though this was eclipsed when Alexander Isak joined from Newcastle United on deadline day.

The playmaker’s lofty price tag perhaps meant he was expected to hit the ground running, but he has instead struggled to get to grips with the pace of the top-flight.

Regardless, Jeremie Frimpong is confident Wirtz will come good, pointing to his consistency despite his failure to chalk up his first goal or assist in the Premier League.

“He has a lot of attributes, you know,” Frimpong said on the first episode of Liverpool Player Portraits.

“But three, I would say, obviously his playmaking. His dribbling. Yeah, and he’s consistent.”

Either way, it certainly hasn’t been the start that Wirtz would have wanted, proving that the relentlessness and physicality of the top-flight can silence even the world’s best players.

Jeremie Frimpong reveals Liverpool icons he looked up to

Frimpong joined Liverpool to play in the biggest games, and clearly, he has also been watching them compete for trophies on TV.

The full-back was even able to name some of the Reds players he idolised the most.

“Well, obviously, back in the day, because when I was living in Manchester, I always used to have LFC TV on, because of my brother, you know,” said Frimpong.

“And I really liked [Luis] Suarez, Fernando Torres. Robbie Fowler, Ian Rush.”

While Liverpool might lack a striker of the same ilk as Frimpong’s heroes, they should have more than enough firepower to propel them to another Premier League title this season.
