Tottenham won 1-0 against Wolves today and Jermaine Jenas wanted to offer some praise to Brazilian full-back, Emerson Royal.
The wing-back once again kept his place in the XI as he helped Spurs overcome a stubborn Wolves side. Royal was found wanting in the attacking third at times – something Jenas pointed out as well – but overall, he put in a fine performance to keep a clean-sheet.

However, while Jenas has criticised Royal for getting in Kulusevski’s way, he was also keen to point out just how much he has improved under Antonio Conte.
“Yeah he went to war with Zaha probably not knowing what he was getting into (on his debut) and got found out.
“But I think again a bit of guidance, bit of structure, a bit of understanding about how Antonio Conte wants him to play and he really developed towards the end of last season. You know, there was talk of him leaving at one point but he’s nailed down his spot,” Jenas said on BT Sport comms.
Tottenham have made a number of new signings this summer and Emerson was expected to be one of the players who lost his place. However, he’s stuck to his task and remains key for Conte. So far.
TBR’s View: Emerson Royal Deserves Credit
There comes a time when you have to just take your hat off to a player’s efforts and it’s getting that way with Emerson Royal really.
Yes, he looks poor at times in the final third but you cannot fault his effort levels or his defensive displays. He is listening to his manager and at the moment, justifying his selection in the XI.
Sure, there are better right wing-backs out there but Emerson Royal is doing just fine at the moment and can be happy with his efforts against Wolves today.
