‘Just get out the way’: Jermaine Jenas blasts Tottenham player for ‘pointless’ action he kept doing against Wolves

Tottenham just edged their way past Wolves today in north London but it was a stuttering performance from Antonio Conte’s side.

A header from close-range from Harry Kane was enough for Spurs to seal the win but overall, Wolves probably deserved something from the game. Bruno Lage’s side created far more chances in the opening 45 minutes but couldn’t quite capitalise and nick a goal.

For Spurs, there were moments of improvement in the second half, albeit still mixed among some frustrating pieces of play from certain players. Indeed, one such player was Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal. And watching on for BT Sport, former Tottenham man Jermaine Jenas was left baffled by Royal’s insistence on trying to help Dejan Kulusevski out in attacking positions.

“I just think that’s pointless from Emerson Royal. Just get out of the way. Get out of the way and let him have a one v one with the defender,” Jenas said on co-comms for BT Sport.

Jenas’ specific comment here came in the 60th minute as Royal seemed to basically get in the way of the Swede. It happened more than once, too, as Royal showed his lack of attacking prowess at times.

TBR’s View: Emerson Royal Did OK For Tottenham

In fairness to Jermaine Jenas, he did compliment Emerson near the end and said he was one of Spurs’ most improved players over the last 12 months.

Today, Royal did just about enough to warrant keeping getting selected by Conte. He was busy down the right, worked hard defensively, and while he might have got in Kulusevski’s way a bit, he did try and get forward.

A scrappy win for Spurs with some scrappy performances. But, another win, and top of the league for Tottenham.
