Jason Cundy has revealed a unique promise Chelsea made to Estevao Willian that the club has yet to deliver on this season.
Estevao has been one of the Blues’ bright sparks this season, putting together some spellbinding performances out wide.
The teenager has showcased real promise in the early stages of his career in the Premier League, with Joao Pedro claiming Estevao can be one of the world’s best.
While everything surrounding Estevao has been positive so far, one worrying element is that a major promise hasn’t been delivered.

Jason Cundy reveals Estevao Willian was promised to play in the number 10 role
Enzo Maresca has been using the Brazil international out wide this season for Chelsea, but Estevao actually prefers to play in the number 10 role.
Of course, that is typically taken up by Cole Palmer in this Chelsea squad, but Cundy revealed to talkSPORT that Estevao was promised opportunities in that role when he joined the club.
“If you’re after creativity and guile, someone like a Cole Palmer, Estevao ticks a lot of those boxes.
“I remember speaking to Tim Vickery when he signed originally for us, and one of the reasons he signed for Chelsea is that he was promised he can play, or would be looking to play that number 10 position, which he believes is his favorite position.
“When Cole went off against West Ham in the warm-up, he came in and he went on the right-hand side, because we had Neto behind Delap.
“Then, of course, there was an option to put him in when he came off, Delap, when he picked up that injury. He hasn’t really featured in there; he drifts in and finds himself in there.”
Enzo Maresca could feature Estevao Willian in the number 10 role against Brighton
While Maresca hasn’t used Estevao in the number 10 role yet this season, he will have a significant opportunity to do so this weekend against Brighton.
Palmer is unavailable for Chelsea due to his groin injury, which could keep him out for a prolonged period if he needs surgery.
Maresca played Facundo Buonanotte in that role against Lincoln City, and even though he scored his first goal for Chelsea in that game, he is unavailable this weekend due to being on loan from Brighton.
That opens up an opportunity for Maresca to fulfill Chelsea’s promise to Estevao by allowing him to play in that position and showcase his capabilities.
