Jamie O’Hara believes West Ham United fans would ‘get the hump’ if the club hired current England boss Gareth Southgate.
David Moyes is facing an uncertain future at West Ham, with his contract set to expire next summer. The Scotsman currently has the Hammers sitting sixth in the Premier League table, just six points off the top four.
The Guardian has recently reported that discussions over a new deal for Moyes are ‘yet to take place’.
It’s led to a host of names being linked with a move to the London Stadium next summer, including the likes of Steve Cooper, Julen Lopetegui and Gary O’Neil.
With Gareth Southgate set to lead England out at the Euros next summer for what could be his last tournament in charge, Jamie O’Hara has been discussing what’s next for the Englishman.
And while the former Tottenham man feels Southgate could be a ‘good shout’ for West Ham, he’s uncertain about how he would be received in East London.

O’Hara thinks West Ham fans would be annoyed if Southgate was hired
“I think Crystal Palace or West Ham is a good shout,” O’Hara told talkSPORT. “I think West Ham fans would probably get the hump with his football though because of the way he plays for England.”
Ray Parlour then raised doubts over whether Southgate is a better man for the job than Moyes.
He said: “Is David Moyes better than Southgate? I’d probably say David Moyes, he’s got the credentials to be better still.”
O’Hara responded: “That’s a big shout! Could David Moyes have done what Southgate has with the England job?”

Southgate has received plenty of criticism during his time as Three Lions boss as he’s yet to deliver a major trophy. But the 53-year-old has done a brilliant job with the national side, especially when you consider the circumstances in which he took over back in 2016.
Yet, O’Hara may have a point about West Ham fans not being best pleased if the Englishman were to succeed Moyes.
Sections of the Hammers fanbase have grown tired of Moyes’ pragmatic style of play, despite encouraging recent results on the pitch.
Based on Southgate’s England side, it would be pretty much more of the same if he were to join West Ham.
