Jamie O'Hara rips into one Arsenal player after Nottingham Forest loss
Jamie O’Hara has been hugely critical of Nuno Tavares after Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest, telling talkSPORT (broadcast on 10/1; 8:15 am) that the full-back was shocking at the City Ground.
The Gunners suffered a hugely disappointing loss in the third round of the competition. Once again, it was Forest who knocked them out at this stage.
A number of fringe members of the squad struggled to send a message to Mikel Arteta. And perhaps no Arsenal player squandered his opportunity more than Tavares.
The left-back was brought back into the side after being an unused substitute against Norwich and Manchester City in the Premier League. Unfortunately, his run-out on Sunday evening lasted just 35 minutes.
He was poor on the ball. And he found himself out of position on a number of occasions. And that prompted Arteta to bring Kieran Tierney on with 10 minutes left before half-time.
It was a ruthless decision from Arteta. But clearly, O’Hara would have backed the call as he issued a brutal assessment of his performance.
“There was a real arrogance about Arsenal. They thought they’d rock up and turn over a Championship side. Nuno Tavares’ attitude suggested the preparation for this game was poor. He was shocking,” he told talkSPORT.
Arteta will hope Nuno Tavares can rediscover early season form after humiliating substitution in Arsenal loss
Some questioned Arsenal signing Tavares in the summer. He was the club’s first addition of the window at a time when fans desperately wanted signings in other positions.
However, Tavares seemed to prove a point in his first few Arsenal appearances. And actually, Arteta was given reason to not bring Tierney back into the side immediately when he regained his fitness.
Unfortunately, since then, Tavares’ form has dipped. And the gulf between himself and Tierney has been made abundantly clear.
The potential is clear. And he only turns 22 later this month. But the substitution needs to spark a positive reaction. Otherwise, it is going to be some time before he is back in the side.
