After completing a deal for Riccardo Calafiori last week, Arsenal still have a significant amount to do in the transfer window before August ends.
Mikel Arteta was thought to want to add a defender, a midfielder and a forward this summer – determined to improve his squad depth.
In that regard, Calafiori should be a superb signing.
Jurrien Timber’s return to fitness effectively means that Arteta has two new signings for his back line, two players who are incredibly versatile.
And whilst Timber has picked up an injury, it’s hoped that the Dutchman could be back to face Lyon on Sunday.
That being said, when speaking on the The Overlap, pundit Jamie Carragher thought there was still one more signing Arsenal were crying out for this summer.
Arsenal are pushing to sign Mikel Merino, a number eight who can ease the burden on Declan Rice in the middle this season.
However, Carragher thought that Arsenal should be focused on recruiting a ‘world class’ forward, someone who can instead help Bukayo Saka.
Jamie Carragher says Arsenal need a new forward to compete with Man City
Speaking on the podcast, Carragher said that he would put Saka and Odegaard in top bracket of players along with a host of names at Manchester City, but said that Arsenal need to add to their firepower.
He shared: “I think they still lack a world class, not so much a striker, but an attacker.

“When I look at Arsenal and that front three I think Saka brilliant, then when I look at City I look at Haaland, De Bruyne, Foden. I mean I would put Odegaard in that.
“But I look at the centre forward position and wide left and I think they could do with someone.”
Of course, from Carragher’s words it’s hard not to conclude that Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams would have been the perfect signing for the Gunners.
Williams was Arteta’s number one target this summer, another Spaniard who shone at the Euros.
However, Williams doesn’t seem interested in joining Arsenal, content to stay at Athletic for another year.
That being said, one Arsenal forward impressed teammates during their 4-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.
