Jamie Carragher predicts who will finish higher in the Premier League, Arsenal or Tottenham

After a few weeks that have brought rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur closer together, Jamie Carragher has now predicted who will finish higher.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side endured three defeats in a row before they left for their winter break, two of those coming in the league.

On the other hand, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side have been steadily climbing the table winning four of their last six league games.

As a result, the rivals are now level on points in fourth and fifth, with Arsenal still having one game in hand.

And when speaking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast today, Jamie Carragher seemed fairly confident in his prediction.

Carragher wasn’t convinced that Tottenham would finish ahead of either Arsenal or Liverpool for that matter.

Instead, the pundit thought Postecoglou’s improving side would be in competition with Aston Villa for the final Champions League spot.

Speaking on the podcast, Carragher said: “I don’t see Tottenham finishing above Liverpool or Arsenal. I don’t see that.

“I think Tottenham will be battling with Aston Villa for top four or five this season.”

Of course, a lot of Spurs fans probably would have been more than happy to accept a Champions League spot in Postecoglou’s first season.

However, the manager’s strong start has inspired bigger aspirations – some fans are still even talking about a title push.

And whilst that may have to wait until next season, when Postecoglou has had more time to build his squad, they shouldn’t be far off.

On the other hand, Arsenal are a lot further along in their project under Arteta, they’re ready to win trophies.

Coming so close last year, it’s understandable why Carragher would pitch Arsenal ahead of Tottenham at this stage.

Consecutive league defeats have caused an inquest into Arsenal’s credentials that seems a little over exaggerated.

The return of Thomas Partey for The Gunners this month should be a big factor, as well as Gabriel Jesus avoiding serious injury.

And with Arsenal potentially now offloading two players this month, they might be making room for an arrival.

That being said, it seems Tottenham could now be pushing for one more signing themselves.
