Jamie Carragher makes Raheem Sterling claim after England win
Jamie Carragher has lauded Manchester City star Raheem Sterling after England booked their Euro 2020 quarter-final spot with a dramatic win over Germany at Wembley, insisting on Twitter that he has been their best player by a mile.
Gareth Southgate’s side will face either Ukraine or Sweden for a place in the semi-final after seeing off Joachim Low’s men on Tuesday.
It was a nervy, cagey affair with few chances of note for either side. But England got the decisive two goals in the final 20 minutes.
And once again in this tournament, it was Sterling who got the key opener.
The 26-year-old had been one of England’s best players throughout the game. And he got his rewards after starting an impressive move.
He played the ball into Harry Kane before continuing his run into the box. It was Luke Shaw who slid the ball across the six-yard area for Sterling to tuck the chance under Manuel Neuer.

It was Sterling’s third goal in the competition. And clearly, it was his most important yet.
And Carragher believes that he has confirmed his spot as England’s main man this summer.
The pundit took to social media to laud the Manchester City forward. He insisted there was simply no competition for England’s best player…
