Jamie Carragher labelled Aaron Ramsdale unbelievable while on commentary for Sky Sports (broadcast on 20/11; 18:05) after the Arsenal goalkeeper made a stunning couple of first-half saves in quick succession during the Gunners’ clash with Liverpool on Saturday.

Ramsdale has been a revelation since making his debut for Mikel Arteta’s men this season. He arrived with many questioning why the club parted with such a large sum to bring him to the Emirates.

But he has been outstanding. And he was rewarded during the most recent international break by being handed his England debut.

He returned to Arsenal with his biggest test yet lying ahead. And on paper, a 4-0 loss against Liverpool would suggest that the 23-year-old failed on the Anfield stage.

However, he was absolutely superb. Plenty of Arsenal fans on social media felt that he was the side’s best performer in the loss.

He made several remarkable saves. And one of those came 10 minutes before half-time when he managed to stop Mohamed Salah’s attempt from close range.

Admittedly, Salah scuffed his shot. But Ramsdale did brilliantly to prevent the Egyptian from having a simple tap-in after his initial save. He managed to hook the ball away from the Liverpool talisman’s feet.

And moments later, he tipped Trent Alexander-Arnold’s blistering attempt from the edge of the box over the bar.

Carragher could not hide how impressed he was by the work to deny Salah. And he went on to add further praise once Alexander-Arnold went close.

“Unbelievable goalkeeping. Mikel Arteta’s got his goalkeeper to thank,” he told Sky Sports.

“The first one just hits him, I think there’s a slight deflection as well. But this reaction.”

“What a start he’s made to his Arsenal career,” he went on to add after the second attempt.

Ramsdale passes another test as Arsenal signing continues to silence doubters

Obviously, there are going to be times when Ramsdale does face criticism. In fact, he will probably be disappointed that he did not stop Liverpool’s first goal from going in. He got a good hand to the attempt.

But there is no question that he is passing almost every test he is being put through at Arsenal.

And with that, surely no one can now question the club’s decision to sign him in the summer.
