Jamie Carragher has given his verdict on Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

The former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit has compared Rashford to his United teammate Anthony Martial.

So, what has Jamie Carragher said about Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford? Let’s take a look.

Jamie Carragher makes unflattering comments about Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford

Well, Jamie Carragher is not impressed with Marcus Rashford. The £300,000-a-week (Spotrac) England international forward was in action for Manchester United against Newcastle United this past weekend.

Newcastle beat Manchester United 1-0 at St. James’ Park in the Premier League. Rashford started the match and failed to make an impact. One pundit even suggested that he should leave the Red Devils.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher has criticised Rashford and has compared him to Anthony Martial.

Martial has been at United since 2015, but the French forward has failed to progress and is now 27.

Carragher told Sky Sports, as transcribed by The Mirror: “It looks like big problems [at Man United]. I can’t actually believe where Man United are in the table.

“Watching Marcus Rashford last night that was an unacceptable performance for a few reasons. That lad didn’t play midweek in the Champions League, but I have been a local player and it’s not easy especially when the team is not doing well.”

The pundit added: “For Rashford and myself and Gerrard at Liverpool it’s your job to fix it and drag others up with you.

“Watching Rashford he reminds me of Martial and that is worst possible thing you can say about him. Foreign player comes in and doesn’t really care. Rashford is now looking like Martial.

“As a local player your job to drag others up. You do not stop running for that badge and your supporters as you are supposedly one of them.”

Marcus Rashford needs to step up

In my opinion, Marcus Rashford has to step up his game. The Manchester United and England international forward is 26 now. He is about to hit his peak years.

Rashford showed a lot of promise when he first broke into the team. In recent years, though, the Englishman has failed to progress. True, there was a spell last season when he was brilliant, but he has lacked consistency.

I think that Rashford needs to start performing on a regular basis. He needs to work harder defensively as well.

The United no. 10 has scored two goals and given one assist in 13 Premier League matches so far this season. The forward has provided two assists in four UEFA Champions League matches for Erik ten Hag’s side this campaign.

Last season, Rashford scored 17 goals and gave five assists in 32 Premier League starts for United.
