James Maddison insists that 31-year-old Tottenham player is genuinely ‘world class’

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison simply can’t stop hailing just how good Son Heung-Min has been since he arrived this summer.

Maddison was speaking to the BBC after Tottenham’s win against Fulham and was almost running out of superlatives for Son.

The England international said that he always loved watching Son over the years, but it’s only now that he’s realised just how good he is.

Maddison said: “We have a brilliant relationship. Sonny is a player who I loved for years and years, just watching, and now it’s a pleasure to play with him.

“He’s a top, top quality player. A world class player in my opinion. And I don’t throw that around a lot, he’s just of that ilk.

“Just look at his first goal, it’s a wonderful finish, and you can’t take that for granted.

“He sticks it in the top corner, I know it’s from the edge of the box unopposed but you still have to put it in and he’s ice cold in those moments.

“It’s a brilliant assist for me. We like to link up, we work a lot in training on trying to find each other and we are starting to find each other’s runs. It’s a pleasure to play with him.”

Maddison says his partnership with Son stems from hard work in Tottenham training

Of course, a lot of credit will have to be given to Ange Postecoglou.

Son Heung-Min looked lost at times under Antonio Conte at Tottenham last season, yet just a few months into thus, the 31-year-old looks reborn.

The finish that Maddison mentioned really was vintage Son, and he now looks as lethal as ever for Tottenham.

Many wondered if he would struggle in the absence of his long-term wingman Harry Kane, but he looks to have found another.

Son and Maddison’s relationship at Tottenham has already been well documented, but for good reason.

The phrase ‘they look like they’ve been playing together for years’ is often thrown around, but is incredibly pertinent here.

And although Son was disappointed by his own reaction to being subbed last night, he surely will be ecstatic with how things are unfolding during his start as club captain.
