Jack Wilshere puts Tottenham target Stefan de Vrij into his World Cup Dream Team

The World Cup is just a few days away and Jack Wilshere has included reported Tottenham Hotspur target Stefan de Vrij in his Dream Team.

Most sides are already in Qatar and are preparing for the World Cup. The likes of Brazil and France are the favourites in many people’s eyes, but a side like the Netherlands, with players like Virgil van Dijk, Frenkie de Jong and Spurs-linked De Vrij, could surprise quite a few people.

As we head into the World Cup, our Fantasy Premier League teams get a breather, but there’s a similar fantasy game for the tournament in Qatar as well.

Arsenal hero Wilshere has named his Dream Team, and unsurprisingly, there are three Gunners stars in his side – Gabriel Jesus of Brazil, England’s Bukayo Saka and Switzerland skipper Granit Xhaka.

His loyalty to Arsenal made him decide against picking a Tottenham player in his team, but he did go with a defender who could end up signing for Spurs in the near future – De Vrij.

CalcioMercatoWeb reported this week that the Dutchman is a target for Antonio Conte, who worked with De Vrij at Inter Milan. The two know each other really well, and the Italian apparently thinks the Inter Milan man would be a great fit for his Spurs side.

De Vrij’s current contract at Inter Milan expires at the end of this season, which should make him available for an absolute bargain in the January transfer window.

TBR View:

Tottenham’s defence has improved massively since Conte’s arrival, but they’re still not as good as the Italian wants them to be.

Cristian Romero is their best centre-half but he has had his fair share of injury troubles. Eric Dier has looked solid more often than not, but he does have a mistake in him – we saw that not too long ago.

Ben Davies and Clement Lenglet have fared pretty well, but if there’s a spot where Spurs should look for an upgrade, it’s on the left side of central defence.

That’s probably where Conte sees De Vrij as a quality option for Tottenham after the World Cup.
