Jack Grealish and Tammy Abraham react as Conor Hourihane confirms permanent Villa exit
Conor Hourihane has confirmed he will be leaving Aston Villa permanently – prompting reaction from Tammy Abraham and Jack Grealish.
Hourihane, 30, has joined Championship promotion hopefuls Sheffield United on loan for the 21-22 campaign. He is out of contract next summer.
While it was not official, the overriding belief was that the loan would spell the end of Hourihane’s Villa spell. Villa are unlikely to hand him new terms.
Joining Villa in January 2017 from Barnsley under Steve Bruce, Hourihane has gone on to play 151 times for Villa – scoring 29 and creating 23.
The 26-time Ireland midfielder has posted on Instagram, confirming that he will be leaving Villa permanently – with a touching message to Villa fans.
Hourihane leaves Villa: Grealish and Abraham react
It is the right move for Hourihane. Though a brilliant player and one that is Premier League standard, he has struggled to cope with Villa’s rise.
Villa have money to spend and have brought in the likes of Ross Barkley – though the loan has now ended – and Leon Bailey, pushing Hourihane out.
Emi Buendia has also come in and those options in midfield ultimately reduce Villa’s need for Hourihane. Now, he is with Sheffield United.
The midfielder was well-liked at Villa. Proven by the responses to his Instagram. Grealish, now at Manchester City and Roma’s Abraham reacted.
