Arsenal are said to be very interested in signing Ivan Toney in January.
Fabrizio Romano has reported quite heavily that the Gunners are keen on the England striker, and many are anticipating this move in the winter.
However, according to Steve Kay, speaking on KS1TV, this deal isn’t as likely as some would have you believe.
Kay says that he’s spoken to people very close to Arsenal’s recruitment structure, and he’s been led to believe that Arsenal don’t have that strong of an interest in Toney.
Kay has heard that Arsenal would do a deal for around £40m, but with the £80m pricetag being banded about, it’s hard to see the Gunners pursuing this one in the winter.

Arsenal not hugely keen on Toney
Kay shared what he’s heard about Toney and Arsenal.
“I can’t see that happening. I don’t think this is happening. I’ve said that for a while. I know some top transfer people, Fabrizio Romano is one, saying that Arsenal are interested, but I’ve spoken to people very close to what goes on at Arsenal, and they’re not having it. They’re not hearing that Arsenal are mega interested in Ivan Toney. There is an interest there, but they’re saying an interest is an interest, they could be interested in him if he was £40m, but they won’t be paying £80m/£100m, Arsenal won’t bother picking up the phone,” Kay said.
Expensive
It’s not all that shocking to hear that Arsenal aren’t too keen on Toney at that price.
£80m is a massive amount of money for a striker who hasn’t kicked a ball for six months and only has one truly stellar Premier League season under his belt.
Toney is a great player, make no mistake about it, but for £80m, you want a proven commodity, not someone who could still end up being categorised as a one-season wonder if his form dips.
Arsenal may be wise to avoid this one at that price.
